Church LED video walls, sized for the back pew
Most church LED quotes are for more wall than the room needs. A sanctuary is read from 15, 30, 60 feet away, which means coarse pixel pitch looks exactly as sharp as fine pitch to everyone in the pews, at a fraction of the price. Here's how to size a church LED video wall, what it costs and what to watch for on the livestream.

Pick the pitch from the front row
| Front row distance | Pitch that's enough | Installed per sq ft | 16 × 9 ft wall |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 to 13 ft or more | P3 to P4 | $500 to $900 | $72,000 to $129,600 |
| About 8 ft | P2.5 | $900 to $1,600 | $129,600 to $230,400 |
| 5 to 6 ft | P1.5 to P1.9 | $1,500 to $2,500 | $216,000 to $360,000 |
16 × 9 ft is 144 sq ft, a common size behind a platform. Ranges include panels, processing, standard structure and install. Set October 2, 2026.
Our opinion: if your front row is 12 feet from the wall, P4 is the right buy. A salesperson walking you to P2.5 is selling you about $57,600 to $100,800 of extra wall on a 144 sq ft build that nobody in the pews will see.
The livestream changes the spec
The sanctuary wall appears in every frame of the stream. Two things matter on camera that don't matter in the room. Refresh rate: ask for 3,840 Hz or better so the camera doesn't catch flicker or scan lines. And brightness: indoor LED runs 600 to 1,500 nits, far more than a sanctuary under evening lighting needs, so the wall should be dimmed during services or it blows out the camera exposure on the people standing in front of it.
Test with your actual cameras during commissioning, at your actual shutter speeds. It takes an hour and saves a year of complaints from the online congregation.
Kit or installed wall?
Online LED kits are real and they're cheap: about $220 to $300 per square foot for event-grade cabinets, a basic sending card and a ground-stack frame. For a church with a volunteer production team that sets up a stage and tears it down, a kit is a fair buy, and we'll say so.
A permanent wall hung above the platform is a different job. It needs a structure engineered for its weight, dedicated circuits for a 144 sq ft wall drawing about 4.3 to 8.6 kW at peak, alignment, color calibration, and 5 to 10% spare modules from the same production batch so a replacement matches. Those are the costs a kit leaves out.
Budgets by congregation size
Under 150 people. Skip LED. Two 86-inch commercial LCD displays for lyrics and scripture, with mounts, install and a content workflow, typically run $8,000 to $15,000.
150 to 500. A coarse-pitch LED wall behind the platform starts to make sense, especially if you stream. Around 12 × 7 ft at P3 to P4 is $42,000 to $75,600.
500+ or multi-campus. A main sanctuary wall, lobby screens and one Dashboard so the central team updates every campus at once.
Outdoor church signs
A street-facing digital sign is a separate project: 2,500 to 4,000 nits, a sealed outdoor cabinet, and almost always a municipal sign permit. Many towns cap brightness and animation speed. Confirm allowed size, brightness and animation with your zoning office before buying hardware; a sign that doesn't meet code is a sunk cost.

Common questions
Church LED wall questions
How much does a church LED video wall cost?
A church LED video wall typically costs $500 to $900 per square foot installed, because most sanctuary walls are seen from 10 feet or more and can use coarse P3 to P4 pitch, which puts a common 16 × 9 ft wall at about $72,000 to $130,000. A 12 × 7 ft wall at P2.5 is about $76,000 to $134,000. Ranges set October 2, 2026.
What pixel pitch does a church need?
Measure from the wall to the front row. Closest comfortable distance in feet is roughly the pitch in millimeters times 3, so a front row 12 feet back works with P4, and 8 feet back needs P2.5. Most sanctuaries don't need fine pitch, which is the single biggest way to save money.
Will the LED wall flicker on our livestream?
It can, if the refresh rate is low. Ask for 3,840 Hz or higher, which is broadcast-safe, and have the camera operator test shutter speeds during commissioning. The sanctuary wall shows up in every livestream, so this matters more than brightness.
Should a church buy an LED kit online?
Sometimes. A 10 × 5 ft P2.9 kit listed online around $11,000 to $15,000 is hardware only, roughly $220 to $300 per square foot. If you have a volunteer production crew, a stage you can ground-stack on and you're fine with no on-site service, a kit is a fair buy. For a permanent wall that hangs above the platform, budget for structure, power and install.
Is LED or a pair of big TVs better for a small church?
For under about 150 people, two 86-inch commercial LCD displays usually win: roughly $8,000 to $15,000 installed with mounts and content workflow. LED makes sense when you need one image bigger than about 110 to 130 inches or no seams in the middle of the lyrics.
What are good church LED wall design ideas?
The church LED walls that work best sit behind the platform at a size the back row can read, often around 16 × 9 ft, run lyrics and scripture built at the wall's native resolution, and are dimmed during services so they don't blow out the livestream's exposure on the people in front. Build lyric and scripture templates for the wall's real shape, and test with your own cameras at your shutter speeds during commissioning.
Does it work with ProPresenter?
Yes. ProPresenter or EasyWorship runs the service; the LED processor takes its output like any display. Between services, a signage CMS can run announcement loops on the same wall and on lobby screens.
